CASTLE PEAK

My buddy Jacob invited myself, Matt and Ben on an attempt to ascend Castle Peak.  Friday night, we backpacked/camped into Washington Lake where it reached 16 deg F that night!  Around 7:30am the next morning, we ascended/descended a 1k ft wall before beginning the gnarly climb up Castle Peak.  Unfortunately, we had to turn back at 11,350 ft (465 ft below the summit) to avoid running out of day light before returning to camp.  Those last 465 ft probably would’ve taken ~3hrs round trip.  We camped at Washington Lake a 2nd night which turned out to be quite warm at 23 degrees Fahrenheit…hehehe.  After spending a gorgeous weekend in snow storms, we hit up a couple hot springs on our drive back home.  Note Castle Peak is the tallest rock in the White Cloud Mountain Range at 11,815 ft and was thought to be Idaho’s tallest mountain at one point in history.
